Qld: Man found dead, two injured, in Atherton home

CAIRNS, April 11 AAP - A man was bashed to death with a blunt instrument and two more
people were injured at their Atherton home this morning.

Police and ambulance officers were called to the home in Roberts Street at 7.50am (AEST)
to find the 42-year-old man dead, another male with serious head and upper body injuries
and a female with upper body injuries.

It is unclear who raised the alarm.

The injured male was taken to the Cairns Base Hospital where he is in a serious but
stable condition.

The female was also taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector John Harris said they were following a "number of lines of inquiry".

"We're speaking to friends and relatives and following a number of leads," he said.

It appeared the three people had been hit a number of times with a blunt instrument,
Det Insp Harris said.

He said robbery had been ruled out but he would not comment further on the reasons
for the bashings.

The three friends were all renting the home.
